Never Heard Of Giethoorn? Here Are 3 Reasons That You Should Add It To Your List!
I bet 90% of the readers for this post never heard of the city of Giethoorn in the Netherlands. It is a tiny paradise. It’s so close to Amsterdam, you can just make a day trip to there, and no way you will regret it. Let me quickly show the 3 reasons why you should make your way there as a day trip. Although check the weather if you want to visit. It can end up really bad if you go on a rainy day, or a cloudy sky. We had both sunny and cloudy sky during our visit. So for some of the photos we were lucky.
Also one of the serious warnings, the last bus from Giethoorn will be gone at 5:21 except for Saturday, Sunday. During the week you have to watch the time really close otherwise you may get stuck in the city.
Live The Hobbiton Experience In Europe
If you live too far from Hobbiton in New Zelland, which in most cases you do, then Giethoorn is the closest one with cute little Hobbit houses. Just a short train ride of an hour from Amsterdam, Giethoorn is a great little town in Northern Europe with less than 3000 population. Even the Hobbiton in Lord of The Rings might have bigger population! It is an amazing place to take awesome photos because of the Creative and Colorful Houses.
Book A Boat Tour or Get A Private Boat And Enjoy The River
Actually I don’t even have to write about this. It’s the first thing you will see once you reach the city. All around there are boat tour companies who organizes group tours or rent you private ones. If you rent one, you will have to drive and most of the times, the private boats hit each other a lot but it doesn’t create a huge problem nor damage. Prices are not cheap but not expensive either.
Catch One of The Most Unique Sunrise By Renting A House
My last tip about this little town is to stay one night if you want to see one of the most stunning sunsets with a view full of those houses and also flower fields. To see the sunset and also find the city cleaned up from crowds, early morning is the best time to be there. After 10 am, it will be full of crowds and it might be hard to take amazing pictures and avoid all the crowd at the same time. Even that there is not much to do in Giethoorn, you can still spend the night in one of those houses, since most of them are being used as B&B. You can get bored after 4-5 hours, so I can tell you to visit the museums, since there are some good museums to see De Oude Aarde, Gloria Maris Schelpengalerie or Museum Giethoorn ‘t Olde Maat Uus.
Alright that can be one of my shortest blog posts, but Giethoorn was a small and cute town. Unfortunately not much to do there, but the houses and the view with the river are still worthy of seeing. It’s a great day trip from Amsterdam.
